MAP Pricing = Minimum Advertised Pricing.
It’s a rule manufacturers set that tells retailers the lowest price they’re allowed to advertise publicly.

How It Works:

Most every major furniture manufacturer (especially high end companies) set a MAP price for each product.

Every retailer — Wayfair, Macy’s, Nebraska Furniture Mart, Raymour & Flanigin, Slumberland, HOM, Living Spaces, MOR Furniture, City Furniture, Crate & Barrel, Living Spaces, Pottery Barn, etc. all of them — are legally required to list the products at the same exact price.

Even during “sales,” the discounts are fake because retailers mark up prices first and then “discount” them back down to MAP.

Example: If the manufacturer in question, sells a Sofa with a MSRP of $3,200, then every dealer who sells that item, may not publicly advertise that item for any less!

Wayfair Price: $3,200

Macy’s Price: $3,200

RH Price: $3,200

Arhaus Price: $3,200

Get the idea!? The result?

Consumers are trapped into thinking they’re getting a good deal when they find something "On Sale" — when in reality, they’re paying full price. Or should I say, "the same regular price", as they would get anywhere else.

So, Why does MAP Pricing Exist?

MAP pricing protects a brands image and the retailer profit margins. Manufacturers want their products to look premium, and retailers want guaranteed profit. It's a win-win for the manufacturer and the retailer, but what about the consumer!?

It's a Big Problem, cause They Lose! Every Shoppers loses. Unless you’re an insider and have connections - you end up overpaying!
